Electrical - No Crank/No Start, Battery Discharged

TECHNICAL

Bulletin No.: 11-06-03-002

Date: September 20, 2011

Subject: No Crank/No Start, Battery Discharged (Inspect Door Latches)

Models:

2010-2011 Buick Enclave

2010-2011 Chevrolet Traverse

2010-2011 GMC Acadia

All Built Prior to December 1, 2010

Condition

Important

Check with the customer to determine if there has been an intermittent Door Ajar message in the DIC.

Some customers may comment on a No Crank/No Start condition caused by a discharged battery.

Cause

2016 GMC Truck Acadia AWD V6-3.6L Page 127

This discharged battery condition can be caused by door latch assemblies that are providing an incorrect signal to the body control module (BCM).

Door latch integrated circuits may generate a door open signal to the BCM when the door is closed, resulting in the vehicle staying awake and

discharging the battery.

Correction

Use the following steps to determine if a door latch issue is causing the No Crank/No Start condition.

1. Charge the battery. Refer to Battery Charging in SI.

2. After charging, test the battery. Refer to Battery Inspection/Test in SI.

3. With the battery charged and tested, perform the following steps.

- Close all four doors, the hood and the liftgate.

- With the parking brake set, start the vehicle, and with the brakes applied, place the gear selector in Drive.

- Observe the driver information center (DIC).

4. If a Driver Door Open, Passenger Door Open, Right Rear Door Open or Left Rear Door Open message appears in the DIC, proceed to step #

5. If no Door Ajar message appears in the DIC, proceed to the Latch Resistance Diagnosis section below.

5. Replace the affected door latch assembly with a revised latch. Refer to the Parts Information in this bulletin. Refer to Front Side Door Latch

Replacement or Rear Side Door Latch Replacement in SI for replacement procedures.

Latch Resistance Diagnosis (For vehicles without RPO AXC/AXE)

Use the following steps to determine the value being sent to the BCM from the front and rear door latches. The resistance measurement can be

taken from the Pink BCM connector relative to a known good ground. The value should be 50 Mega Ohms or greater when the door latch is closed.

If the value is less than 50 Mega Ohms with the latch in the closed position, replace the latch with a revised latch. Refer to the Parts Information in

this bulletin.

Latch Resistance Diagnosis (For vehicles with RPO AXC/AXE)

Use the following steps to determine the value being sent to the BCM from the rear door latches. The resistance measurement can be taken from the

Pink BCM connector relative to a known good ground. The value should be 50 Mega Ohms or greater when the door latch is closed. If the value is

less than 50 Mega Ohms with the latch in the closed position, replace the latch with a revised latch. Refer to the Parts Information in this bulletin.

Use the following steps to determine the value being sent to the BCM from the front door latches. The resistance measurement can be taken between

pin # 5 and pin #13 on the door trim panel harness connector. The value should be 50 Mega Ohms or greater when the door latch is closed. If the

value is less than 50 Mega Ohms with the latch in the closed position, replace the latch with a revised latch. Refer to the Parts Information in this

bulletin.
